The Symposium “Forestry Mechanization" (from 1994 named with the acronym “FORMEC”) was held for the first time in 1966 at Zvolen in former Czechoslovakia. The original idea of the organizers of this scientific meeting was to give an opportunity for scientists from Eastern and Central European countries to gather, discuss about forest engineering matters, deepen the knowledge in that field of science and overcome gaps due to different technology levels.

The main goals of FORMEC are:

  1. Combining experience from worldwide scientists, researchers and practitioners in forest operations and planning on close-to-nature principles.
  2. Encourage cooperation, gather knowledge and improve exchange of information in forestry profession and science.

Prof. Dr. Raffaele Cavalli (University of Padua, Italy)
Prof. Woodam Chung PhD (Oregon State University, USA)
Prof. Dr. Hans Rudolf Heinimann (Swiss Federal Institute of Technology Zürich, Switzerland)
Prof. Dr. Tadeusz Moskalik (Warsaw Agricultural University, Poland)
Prof. Dr. Tibor Pentek (University of Zagreb, Croatia)
Dr. Dominik Röser (The University of British Columbia, Canada)
Prof. Dr. Karl Stampfer (University of Natural Resources and Life Sciences Vienna, Austria)
Prof. Dr. Rien Visser (University of Canterbury, New Zealand)

Additional members of the FORMEC 2019 symposium:

Dr. Imre Czupy (University of Sopron, Hungary)

51 meetings have been held so far in 18 different European countries. After the symposium in Spain in the year 2018, the next meetings are planned to be in Sopron and Forchtenstein (Hungary | Austria) and Oregon (USA).
