Field Trip FORMEC 2025

June 10, 2025: Departure from Joensuu by busses in the morning (detailed schedule will be provided to the participants).

For all the field trip participants:

Forest harvesting site with the newest CTL harvesting technologies and methods, including

• Harvesting industrial roundwood and energy wood
• Paying attention to biodiversity in wood-harvesting operations
• Repelling root-rot disease (stump treatment) in summertime wood-harvesting operations in Finland.

Our partners in wood-harvesting operations are Ponsse Plc, Metsä Group, and Pentin Paja Oy with NAARVA products.

Additionally, you can choose one of the following two options to visit:

Sawmill plant tour and wood handling logistics with timber transported by timber trucks and railways in the mill area (Stora Enso Plc, Mantsinen Group) (Limited number of spots available; First registered first in) OR

Bioenergy location with new biocarbon factory, large-scale CHP production from wood, and foresight of hydrogen and biomethane production (Savon Voima Oy)

For all the field trip participants:

The field trip will end back in Joensuu, at the Pielinen riverside, on the former sawmill area that has been rebuilt for citizens. The City of Joensuu introduces the monument honouring the old sawmill history. Also, some latest forest technologies will be presented, with the possibility of witnessing timber floating.
