Winners of the Best Paper and Poster Awards (FORMEC 2017, Brașov)

Between 25th-29th September 2017, the 50th International Symposium on Forestry Mechanization (FORMEC) was held in Brașov, Romania. More than 170 participants from over 30 countries worldwide, including well-known researchers, young scientists, representatives of forest-based industries and noteworthy keynote speakers shared their views on key forestry sector challenges. A diversified range of topics including biomass for bioenergy, innovative technology and forestry mechanization, timber logging, forest road engineering, wood transport, ergonomics, work safety and wood supply chain optimization were the base for an intense and exciting 50th FORMEC Anniversary.

FORMEC Network supports high quality research in forest engineering, and this year at FORMEC three young scientists were rewarded during the Best Paper and Poster Award ceremony for their excellent results! Congratulations Hunter Harrill (Paper Award - 1st Prize; University of Canterbury, New Zealand), Preston Green (Paper Award - 2nd Prize; Oregon State University, USA), Madalina Fornea (Best Poster Award; Transilvania University of Brasov, Romania) and your teams for your achievements!

The field trip to Forest Romania machinery exhibition was a great opportunity to see traditional and innovative harvesting technology at work and an additional platform to further debate current sector challenges with key forest industry players!

We thank all participants for their excellent contributions and interesting discussions during the conference! We also show our gratitude to our sponsors for their significant support! Not the least, many thanks to our partners and to the entire organizing team! Thank you all for being part of a successful 50th FORMEC Anniversary in Brașov!
