At FORMEC 2025, young researchers (within 3 years of getting the PhD) will have the possibility of being selected for two awards for the best oral presentation (150 euros each) and one award for the best paper presented (150 euros). In addition to the monetary prize, each award recipient will receive a complimentary publication option in the Forests Monitor in 2025.
The Forests Monitor is an international peer-reviewed open-access journal dedicated to the applied science of multifunctional forest ecosystems, with a primary objective of enhancing forest management and conservation in support of good governance worldwide.
June 9, 2025: As a part of FORMEC 2025 Conference, we will organize a Pre-conference trip by bus from Helsinki-Vantaa Airport (7:30) and Tikkurila Railway station (8:00) to Joensuu (about 17:00).
The route goes through Kymenlaakso, significant forest industrialized region, and includes visit and guided tour to the Finnish Forest Museum LUSTO (https://lusto.fi/en/) at Punkaharju and lunch.
June 9, 2025: The ice breaking event will be held at the METLA House (Yliopistokatu 6) at 20:00 – 23:00.
METLA House was completed in 2004 as the office building for the Joensuu unit of the Finnish Forest Research Institute (Metla). In 2015, Metla merged with the Natural Resources Institute Finland (Luke), but the building's name remained the same. Currently, the European Forest Institute (EFI) also operates in the building.
June 10, 2025: Buses will depart from Joensuu city center in the morning, around 8:00 a.m. Detailed schedules and meeting points will be emailed to participants, so please check your email regularly.
FORMEC 2025 Conference Days will take place on the campus area of the University of Eastern Finland (UEF) in CARELIA (Yliopistokatu 4) and AURORA (Yliopistokatu 2) buildings.
In the map below, CARELIA is building number 7 and AURORA is building number 6. (Building number 10 is the METLA House (Yliopistokatu 6) where we have Ice breaking event.)

The Organizing Committee will organize a free tour to the Ponsse factory on Friday, June 13, with the option to travel to Helsinki-Vantaa Airport from Kuopio Airport or Kuopio Railway Station or Joensuu Airport (Group 1 only). In Ponsse tour, we have Group 1 (early) and Group 2 (later). You can choose the group that best fits your schedule and travel plans.
Note: Flights and train tickets must be booked individually.
